Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Textpilot. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Chrome extension and web services. Textpilot is an AI-powered text enhancement tool that helps you write better content across the web.

By using Textpilot, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and profile picture if you sign in with Google OAuth.

License Information: We store information about your subscription plan (Lifetime or Subscription), license keys, and usage tracking for billing purposes.

Usage Data: We track the number of AI requests you make, tokens consumed, and actions performed (such as fix grammar, expand, translate) to manage your plan limits and improve our service.

Brand Voice: We store the writing profile you save, including the original imported Markdown and your edited version. You can disable it, edit it, restore the original or download it from your dashboard. An enabled profile is included in your writing requests.

AI Provider API Keys: If you configure your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key, we store it encrypted. The key is used only to authenticate requests to its corresponding AI provider.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain our service
  • Process your text transformation requests through AI models
  • Manage your subscription and billing
  • Send you important updates about your account and service changes
  • Improve our service and develop new features
  • Ensure compliance with our Terms of Service

4. Data Storage and Security

Encryption: Your AI provider API keys are encrypted using industry-standard encryption methods before being stored in our database.

Data Processing: When you request a writing action, your selected text or draft, the necessary reply context and your enabled Brand Voice are sent through our backend to OpenAI or Anthropic, according to your provider configuration. We do not persist drafts or tweets in our application request logs or database. Your saved Brand Voice is retained as account data. Each provider processes requests under its own policies.

Database Security: We use Prisma Postgres to securely store your account information, license details, and encrypted API keys.

Browser Extension: The Chrome extension stores your license key locally in your browser's storage for authentication purposes. This key can be revoked at any time from your dashboard.

5. Third-Party Services

Textpilot uses the following third-party services:

  • OpenAI: We use OpenAI's API to process your text transformations. Your text is sent to OpenAI for processing. Please review OpenAI's privacy policy for more information.
  • Anthropic: If you select Claude with your own key, your writing requests are processed by Anthropic. Please review Anthropic's privacy policy for its processing and retention practices.
  • Google OAuth: If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile information (name, email, profile picture) from Google.
  • Stripe: Payment processing for subscriptions is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card information.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and license data as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account, please contact us and we will remove your personal information from our systems within 30 days.

API request logs and usage statistics are retained for up to 90 days for billing and service improvement purposes.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data stored in our systems
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Revoke license keys at any time from your dashboard
  • Export your account information
  • Opt-out of marketing communications

8. Chrome Extension Permissions

The Textpilot Chrome extension requires certain permissions to function:

  • activeTab: To access the text you select on web pages
  • storage: To store your license key locally in your browser
  • Host permissions: To display writing tools on supported pages, read requested writing context and communicate with our backend

The extension detects eligible editors locally. Opening Textpilot in an X reply composer reads the displayed reply context and draft to show the writing tools. Text is sent for AI processing only when you choose a writing action. We do not collect a browsing history, access X session cookies, fetch hidden conversations or publish replies automatically. Site restrictions and the extension off switch apply to both selection and composer tools.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
